COMMUNITY

What does community mean to you? When I started blogging I wanted it to be a platform for a community of people to learn and grow together. There’s power in numbers! The dictionary describes community as a group of people who share common interests or characteristics. I agree with this, however, I’d say a community can also be a group of people with great diversity – maybe the commonality is only that they are human. I envision the concept of community as an umbrella system. We have one large umbrella for the human race. Under that are smaller umbrellas of “sub-communities”. And under those are even smaller umbrellas and so on. I like to think of the human race as a community, because it’s so important for all people to realize the importance of working together for the betterment of the community. We can learn so much from other people. There are so many people with so many different skills and talents, that we should not be “recreating the wheel” with anything. Being open-minded and willing to learn from others is paramount in the healthy progression of our society. Being part of a community can be a great first step in doing your part for human progression.

There are many advantages to being part of a community. One of the most important benefits to being part of a community is making connections. You will connect with people who have something in common with you – maybe even build relationships. Those connections/relationships will improve your support system as well as give you the opportunity to help or support someone or something else. Finally, you will gain knowledge and build your pool of resources about the common reason you have joined together. Knowledge is power! Learning from others who have been through it, creates that experiential teaching/learning model – very powerful. Everyone wins!
A few questions…
1. Are you part of a smaller community within the town/city you live in? How many communities do you belong to?
2. What are the benefits you notice from being part of the communities you participate in?
3. How can you expand your reach? What niche do you have that could serve to better a community?
Growing word by word,
Jackie

Good points Jackie. How do we get the various communities to unify? Especially when they are so diverse. So many “umbrellas” to bring together today.
