FLOW

With so much unrest in our country today, we could benefit from releasing our worries, our concerns, our uncertainties. This release is possible for everyone! I like to call it being in the FLOW. For those who have no worries or concerns, you can gain an even stronger sense of personal satisfaction by being in the FLOW. Others may refer to FLOW as being “in the zone” or hitting your “sweet spot”, but I prefer to call it FLOW.

If you’ve ever been a competitive athlete, you probably know that feeling of being in a state of weightlessness. You are running and don’t even feel it. You are making one shot after another without even thinking about it. You are pitching a no-hitter. You don’t have to be participating in a sporting event to experience being in the FLOW. People who enjoy fine arts, find themselves in the FLOW when they have a flawless performance, when they are singing and hit every note, when they create a painting and realize it’s done before they know it! Songwriters can write an entire song in minutes when they are in the FLOW. Take a moment to remember a time you were “in the zone” or hitting the “sweet spot”. As you visualize this, take a moment and re-experience the pictures in your mind. You likely will activate the feelings you had in those moments. It was joy, bliss, excitement and satisfaction. I bet it brings a smile to your face right now!

When you are in the FLOW, there is no resistance. Your body, mind and spirit are all in sync, and you feel complete satisfaction and joy. It’s a feeling you have when something just happens naturally, and time usually flies by when you are in this state of consciousness. Undoubtedly, we can all be in the FLOW throughout our day.

To me, being in the FLOW is a state of complete surrender. I am not athletic, so I have never been “in the zone” in that regard. However, I enjoy being in the FLOW when I am spending quality time with my family, when I am working with my clients in counseling sessions, when I’m in prayer/mediation, when I’m writing, and when I am being creative with my scrapbooks. Being in the FLOW at those times tells me that I am at my most authentic self in those moments. I have let all pressures go, all societal expectations go, and have allowed myself to be my truest, highest self. It’s when I feel the most God source energy pouring into me.

Knowing and understanding this concept of FLOW as a state of consciousness is paramount in accepting that our happiness is truly “mind over matter”. A great visual that helps to bring me back to FLOW is that of a beautiful stream in the mountains. I take a moment and allow myself to feel my body floating down the stream without any worry of an obstacle. The water is clean, fresh, crisp, and is the perfect temperature and the perfect speed. I am surrounded by a protective, angelic light that makes me one with the water. It keeps me floating down the stream safely and effortlessly. The scenery is magical – the trees and plants are lush, the aroma of spring awakens my senses, the sun warms my skin, the butterflies dance in the sky and all is well with the world.

Take a moment and answer these questions here on the blog or in your own personal journal. By considering these questions, you will experience a deeper awareness of self.

A few questions…

When do you allow yourself to be your truest, most authentic self?

How have you experienced being in the FLOW in the past?

How can you find more opportunities to enjoy your unique FLOW?

Growing word by word,

Jackie
